Summer is on the horizon, and all you can think about is that trip to the beach, camping or cross-state road trip vacation. You won’t forget to pack your swimsuit, a pair of shades or food, but what you may forget about is making sure the vehicle is prepped to handle the miles it’s about to undertake. Before flying out the driveway at mock 5 this summer for that fun family trip, make sure you prepped your car with the following.

First aid kit: Hopefully you’ll never need to pull this out of the trunk, but don’t take any chances. Make sure if something goes wrong, you’re ready.

Jumper cables: If you’re lucky enough to get someone to stop and jump your dead car on the side of the road, don’t just assume the good samaritan will have cables of his own. Better yet, pack (or buy) a car battery charger of your own so that if you do end up needing a jump on the trip, you don’t have to flag anyone down for help.

Paper towels/garbage bag: If your road trip will involve having kids in the back seats, this is a must. If not, your backseats could be a total pigsty by the time your destination is reached.

Pack a map: GPS apps are pretty good these days about still being able to navigate you even when no service is available… But what about if your phone dies? Pack phone charging cables for the car and just in case, pack a non-digital roadmap.

Oil Change: Your owner’s manual will give you the amount of miles between oil changes for your vehicle but the general rule of thumb is to change your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. If your oil change is coming up or you don’t know when the last time you changed oil was, then it’s a good idea to change your oil before the road trip. Give Bud Clary Chevrolet in Longview a call at (360) 423-1700 and schedule an oil change before you pack up and leave!

Happy summer travels from the Bud Clary family!
